Special Olympics

I had the awesome opportunity to help shoot a triathalon that benefits the Special Olympics, and here are some of the details of the day.

Dance Baby Dance!

I was so glad I caught this, little Miss Addie turned 7. She sings and she dances and she skips all the time... the happiest little girl. Sigh. Makes me just wonder about kids. Do you wonder? Maybe it's amazement. Or just memories. I guess it just puts me in her little self for a bit. So happy and carefree...

You've got to check into the dance studio that I love. Michelle Taylor is phenomenal!! She still dances professionally herself, and she creates the CUTEST dance routines and costumes! It's located in the area of Higley and Guadalupe, and she is offering HIP HOP this year... YEAH! Chase is signed up and anxious to go, unfortunately I am too old :( Anyway, Michelle told me yesterday she still has some openings in her classes, and so I thought I would share with everyone that has a little dancer at home.

Boys will be boys

I must admit, that boys are hard to take pictures of. Not because they aren't cute, not because they are too wiggly, and not because they won't smile. Simply because they hate having their pictures taken. So, that gives me a very small window of time when they are behaving just like their mom had threatened or bribed them to in the car on the way to the shoot, and the time when they have had enough of me and my camera in their face. And depending on the boy that window of time is super small, my son's window is the smallest (erg)!

THESE boys, however were fantastic! It helped that we were in a junkyard, smart thinking on Mom's part! And they are just dang good boys. And of course the sweet 18 month old sister, which I will tell you about 18 month olds in another post. My favorite shot is the one of all the kids. You can see each of their personality even by the way they are hanging on to each other. Seriously cute boys...

Photography 101 and 102 - Fall Session

For those of you that have been waiting, my photography classes are back! I am excited to be offering Photography 101 and 102 on Tuesdays, September 14th and 21st from 9-12 in the morning. Please email me to get registered.

I love this class! It is one thing to read your manual and try to figure out your camera, but it is quite another thing to learn from a person. It's even better in a group setting, because others will ask questions you may not have, but would love to know. We will learn a concept, and then go and practice shooting for a few minutes using that concept, then come back to the classroom and learn another concept.

Hip Hop for Moms?

I could watch hip hop dancers all... day... long... That and surfers. But have you seen Step Up 3? Oh MY!! I've never really liked 3D movies, but this was insane!! Amazing creativity was used and the dancers... jeesh... they can do things I never knew were possible! We were watching So You Think You Can Dance last night, and were in complete awe of the Hip Hop routines, (and all of them for that matter). We were totally laughing at ourselves, cause as we were watching the routines, I would notice my muscles would do a little spasm and a twitch as if my body wanted to get up and get dancing right there... Mallory was having the same thing going on and we were just dying laughing. Truth be told though, if I could find a hip hop class for Mamas, I would be there! Is that an oxymoron? Hip Hop for Moms?

So, in honor of Hip Hop week at our house, thought I would showcase some more of this awesome crew that I got to shoot, (and they wouldn't teach me anything, dang it) they are a local group, but amazing! They battle all over the place!

This last shot is my favorite! Right after I shot it I was kicking and squeeling with delight!

Country Wedding

It was the kind of wedding that people talked about for weeks. The reception was so much fun that people stayed and stayed and stayed. Both the Bride and the Grooms family brought fun and crazy traditions, that it made for a perfect day and a wonderful night. It was a lil' bit country, as she rides, boards, and does everything horses, and he is going to school to prepare for a career with horses as well. The dance floor was packed all night, and the bride led the way for all of the line dances, and made some quick cash with the "dollar dance". I loved that most of the guests wore jeans, and the food was cooked in either a dutch oven, or the "pit", and it was all delicious! So glad I could be here to capture this event!

The little cowboys at the top of the picture were all eyes on the mechanical bull, and the big cowboys at the bottom of the picture were all eyes on the cowgirls!

St. Lucia

We just got back from the most amazing experience in St. Lucia! My parents are serving an 18 month mission there, and so my hub and I decided to go out and stay a few days.... it was absolutely incredible!! Because my parents are "locals", we got to see what no tourist gets to see, and experience so much of the culture. My parents drove us all over the island meeting people, seeing different sites, and getting the St. Lucian experience. Here is what I tried to bring home with us...

My parents relaxing after the most incredible snorkeling afternoon near Soufriere. We were swimming with thousands of fish. We could see clearly 15 feet below, and I just kept thinking I was swimming in a giant aquarium. It was amazing! I can't believe I didn't have an underwater camera, but entertained the thought of wrapping my camera up in a few zip lock bags and taking it diving, ha ha!

The above 4 shots were taken in a little village called Anse La Raye. We stopped here for a quick break on a road trip, and it was one of my favorite things. The locals had just pulled in the catch of the week, and were happy to show us as they were getting ready for their Friday night fish fry. The little fish above are sardines, and I don't know what this blue fish is called, but look closely at his mouth. His mouth looks like it has red lips and bucky front teeth and bottom teeth. When I was snorkeling, a fish just like this was straight below me and looked right up at me with his bucky looking smile, so he looked like he was grinning right at me, it was so funny, so I started calling him the "bucky beaver" fish.

We snorkeled every day. My parents live just up the hill from an amazing beach that was practically private. My hub loved swimming. This is how I wanted to remember him from the trip, with his feet sticking out as he dove under, cause this is what he did all the time.

I loved going to the market, we'd buy our fresh fruits from here. So proud of my 70 year old Mom to go snorkeling with me... not many can say their Mom would do that!

It was so cool to see fishing boats like this come right up to the beach, and bring in their huge fish they had caught that day and sell them to the restaurants for that night's dinner. We don't get this fresh of fish in Arizona!

St. Lucia's landmarks, the breath taking Pitons.

I loved that we were introduced to fruits and plants we had never even heard of. I was happy to try everything, but didn't love it all. The above plate was a Tuna dish, we ate on the restaurant patio that was on a hill overlooking a fishing village, and it was raining a tropical hard, and misty rain, that lasted for only a few minutes. This Tuna was great!

My Dad is showing us how to eat the mangos. First you squish them to get them juicy, then you bite a hole in the skin and then suck out the juice. He also made us fresh mango smoothies... oh my gosh they were to die for!

I'll try to get some pictures of the neat people we met there. Their accents are so fun, and they are all so friendly. We loved our trip and kept wishing we would have brought our kids to be able to experience this other world that we did. Amazing...

As we've gotten to know this family, it's been fun to just let our minds wander about their little new baby, Lexi. You must read about her adoption from China here. What would she be wearing if she were still in China in the overcrowded orphanage? Certainly not the darling Matilda Jane outfits her Mom dressed her in today. Would she be walking yet? Would she be talking yet? She has totally thrived in this family and I just loved that during the family shoot every kid wanted a picture of themself with little Lexi! She is referred to as a Princess, simply because she is.

Father's Day Tribute

While I was at my Dad's house, I was able to grab a couple of snaps of things that remind me of him. Happy Father's Day Dad, I love you very much!

Dad's tie collection.... the world's largest!

My Dad is the hardest worker there is, and taught us to be the same. Thank you Dad.

He is always a teacher, and always a student.

He also has the world's largest green thumb.

He loves Christ. And so do I.

Dad is always losing his reading glasses, so I loved this, and that he loves architecture and design. This stand I found the glasses on reminded me of that.

He was a pilot.

His shoe collection rivals his tie and plant collection. You could say he collects. :) Luv ya pops!

No matter where he has lived or visited, he is fascinated with plants of that area.

There is much more to be said about this great man, but I will save that for us....

Happy Father's Day Dad! Thanks for your service!!

Nocturnal Zoo

I got an awesome opportunity to shoot the Phoenix Zoo's "Prowl and Play" event that they host during the summer. The event starts in the late afternoon and it goes through the evening. It's the best time to be at the zoo! The temperature was fantastic, there was added entertainment, and the temperature was great!

One of my highlights was getting the MEDIA PASS!!! This meant that people would smile when I lifted my camera, I could go straight to the front of the lines, and even into VIP areas! Woo HOO!

I had no idea that Giraffe's tongues were as long as their necks... this was the cool!

They have an amazing splash area that looks like the inside of a cavern... so fun!

The kids got to drive remote control boats in Stingray Bay...

There was a children's theater that had actors come and show you what some of the animals do at night...

This was totally cool. They take you on Night Hikes and we got to see the Elephants from two different angles. This girl was very entertaining!

June Photoshop class worked out!

For those of you waiting to hear, I have been able to schedule a June class afterall!! Yeah!!!

Here are the details:

Date: Saturday, June 19th
Time: 2:30pm - 9:00pm
(dinner will be provided)
Requirements: I will be teaching from
Adobe Photoshop CS4. If you have CS3 or CS2, you will still be able to do everything that I teach. This class is not open to Elements users, but if your an Elements user, and would like a Photoshop class, please email me and I will put one together if I have enough interest.
We will be in a conference room, and your welcome and encouraged to bring a laptop. I will be providing a packet that includes detailed notes on all of the subject matter as well.

What: This is a basic photoshop class, but we will be fully editing a
handful of images by the end of the session. It is geared towards photo editing, not graphic design.

Where: in Gilbert, at a business office located on Cooper and Ray, more details when you register

Graduation

I had a sweet friend from High School facebook me this week with this cute message... "We had our family pics taken today at JC Penney. They turned out all right, but I wish you had taken them. You are amazing! I wish you were closer and handed out $7.99 package deal coupons. =)"
I wish I could do $7.99 package deal coupons too... just for entertainment, my expenses for the month of April were $2324.97, and so far this month they are $4167.77. These are the areas that I had expenses in: camera equipment and supplies (big one), computer supplies, internet fees, meals, office supplies, print costs (a biggee), cell phone, text, and data fees, training and software, travel, room rent for training center, postage, and website fees. This is all with out having any studio overhead and no hired help... I wonder how JCPenney does it?

Here is my amazing nephew who is graduating tonight... I've had the dang Vitamin C song in my head all day, since my 8th grader is movin on to High School too (ack!), and my husband's 6th grade class is graduating...

This guy is the sweetest. He is very grounded, yet fun. Kind and thoughtful, and so great in so many ways... Congrats T! We are so proud of you!! We're off to watch his commencement ceremonies, and I'm sure I'll get choked up...

Shhh.... don't tell Daddy

This gorgeous mom had me meet her at the end of the earth where Dad owns a lumber and trussing company on tons of desert acreage. I simply love how everything turned out. She is going to surprise him and have the images hanging in his office before Father's day. Smart lady!!

For our Dad, I am planning on shoot "A Day with Dad". I'm going to take pics of him in his 6th grade class where he teaches and shoot documentary style, then grab some shots of him playing catch with our boys in the street where we live, and hanging with the girls... all the things that make up his world as a Dad... then put into a digital book for him for Father's Day. I'm sure he will tear up, which means I've done my job right as a gift giver... well, maybe he won't without the surprise factor.

If you would have seen this location, you might have been slightly disappointed, but it was the perfect location to amp the creative juices and make something out of nothing. Obviously Mom had a vision too, or we would not have driven all the way out there. I wish I had taken a picture of the entire yard, just so you could see how desolate everything looked. Picture a few miles of desert, with a bunch of junk spread into one area, a couple large metal bars, and some factory type equipment. And tumbleweeds. Not ideal.

Here is one tip I use in situations like this to make something amazing... (which I think this next image is pretty sweet), I look for shapes in the environment. We were driving down the dirt and I saw a stack of these things, have no idea what they are and I thought, "circles-yes!" So we screeched to a hault, unloaded the kiddos and they were more than thrilled to 1. be allowed to play on something otherwise labeled dangerous and 2. get dirty! Here is what we captured!

Old trucks always are amazing for a great shot, and some color pop!

Behind this darling girl pictured below is a stack of treated wood. Sentimental for Dad, fantastic backdrop for me - squares!! Patterns please the brain, so that's why this becomes so much more interesting! We did tons of shots here.

Luckily, there was a gorgeous field of wheat across from the lumber yard, and the kids were crazy excited to play in here, and so was I... candy for my camera!!

Can I keep my 7?

Dear Mr. Summer,

I only have a few days left till you arrive. Everyone is so excited about you, and I am too, really I am. I'm excited about the watermelon for breakfast, the snuggly kids, the REDBOX nights... but if you could just not take away my precious 7, then my world would be so very perfect!

Call me ungrateful if you like, but I'm really not. I truly enjoy everything you bring. I love the lazy pajama days, the root beer floats, and the drive in movies. I can't wait for the road trips, the warm beach, and the tan that only lasts for one week. But why when you bring all of that, do you have to take so much at the same time? If you realized the joy and peace the 7 brings me, I think you'd reconsider taking it with such drastic measure.

Would you possibly consider a trade? I'll trade you all the black licorice in the world, in fact I'll never eat another piece, if you let me keep my 7. What? Who told you? Yes, I loathe black licorice, but as long as you like the stuff, it's still a fair trade right?

Maybe a compromise? You give all the library reading contests, the sleep in mornings, and homemade popsicles you want, and I'll find ways to scatter the 7. So it would be more like 2, then 3, then 1/2... yeah, no... I can see already that won't work either.

So, farewell my 7, I surrender you to Mr. Summer. Bring on the camping, the tire swing, and the trips to the mall with the teenager. I will adore and embrace it all. I will. My 7 will have to wait... 3 long months when you leave and take your beach towels, sunscreen and barbecues. I will miss you then, but will be ecstatically and desperately grateful to be reunited with my precious 7. My precious 7 hours of peace and quiet I get each day while schools in session!

Since I've been sewing lately, I've found some blogs that have awesome tutorials, and Sachiko's blog is on my favorites. In fact, I have 2 tank tops from Forever 21 sitting in the project box right now, can't wait to get my hands on them to create a project similar to one of hers. She happens to like me too... well my blog at least. We were chosen out of 99 others from a "virtual party" of DIY projects. She likes my skirts and aprons I made for myself and my girls. Did I mention that Grandma got an apron too? We mailed it to St. Lucia where she is serving a mission. I kept wondering if she would be excited about an apron while on a mission... well, she was tickled pink.. yeah! I love giving gifts that mean something. Anyway, thanks Sachiko for checking out my site!

Michelle is the most amazing professional party planner... so amazing that she is getting recognized nationally for many of her party ideas and her blog. I got hooked up with her a few months ago, and she hired me to shoot a Sweet 16 party (MTV style, body guards, professional entertainment, the works). We've had a blast pulling off her vision, and the party was a raving success!!! Michelle, I must confess that I am borrowing your mad skills and using one of your ideas for a baby shower I'm hosting this week... your da bomb!! Here is just a few of my images from that party! And the poster of the guy behind the candy bar... I took that too... he's crazy funny!!

And I am DYING to share with you what one of my clients did for her hubby for Father's day, but I am late getting pics back to my good friends who have been patiently waiting to see their pics... so I must prioritize!!

Cherish - lifestyle photography

As a lifestlye photographer, you always hope your client gets the fact that your goal is not always to have everyone looking in the camera and smiling so cheesy, but to capture the relationships that your family has, the connections and the closeness. And as much as I show that on my blog and portfolios, sometimes people are still searching for the picture where everyone is looking at the camera. When I met with this cute family, the kids were, well let's just say they were full of personality that day :) I will take personality over perfect behavior any day, it's much easier to shoot and capture the fun stuff! So, when I sent the pics to the Mom, I was so relieved that she "got it" and also loved it! She loved that we captured the playfulness and more. Her favorite word and theme is "cherish" and I think we caught so many shots of them cherishing the kids. So, we are planning a beach shoot with them this fall... can't wait to play with these darlings in the sand!

The family shot above is my very fave! Notice that the mom and the boy aren't even looking at the camera. What I love is the way the boy seems to just be lovin on his Dad and the Mom is just adoring her cute daughter! Love it!!

The collage above was done by the very talented Elena Yeager. She is amazing and takes images and collates this art onto canvas and then finishes with a super nice lacquer (or something like it). This tiny picture does not do it justice, you have to see it for yourself. This is 40 inches long and 30 inches high. Beautiful!!

Mother's day revelation for me...

This last week, we were all hanging out as a family, and there was a moment when I realized that all 5 of my kids (I include my husband as a kid in moment's like this) were talking to me at once, I kept hearing... "mom...", "mom....", and the crazy thing was, I was answering all of them, individually, and a little flustered, but I was actually doing it... well, that is until I said something like.... "really? everyone at once? c'mon guys!?"
I thought about this later, and told myself, one day I'm gonna miss this. Miss being this needed, and this loved by all of them at the exact same time. So I try to laugh my way through and relish the crazy moments, cause I don't want to take them for granted.
So tonight, we were all laying on the red shag rug video conferencing my Mom and Dad who are serving a mission in St. Lucia and my boys are getting super crazy, (admittedly with a little help from me), and I thought back to my last conclusion, and was just enjoying it. Then I looked at my Mom through the lap top and I realized... she doesn't miss this. She wasn't envying the crazy moment I was having with my boys and trying to remember her own crazy days gone by. She was patiently waiting for us to regain composure. She gets to enjoy the grand kids, and then be an adult the rest of her day. She gets to have peace and quiet and time to do the things that she wants to do. Is that what they mean by the "Golden Age"? So, maybe I won't miss the little birds calling "Mom, Mom, Mom" all at the same time, but hey, I'll still try to laugh my way through and relish the crazy moments now, cuz...(okay, searching for something deep and profound here, but it's not coming) how about just cuz...

I asked my friend Mary to come over and shoot my favorite time with my kids. We often will be found reading on my bed on Sunday nights... mostly Shel Silverstein. Thanks Mary!

Then, the girls and I had been planning a fun shoot with our matching-ish skirts. I've for some reason taken to sewing since Christmas, so if you don't find me editing late into the evening, you'll find me sewing. My body's clock is so off! I made these skirts for us for Easter, it was sew fun... (pun intended he he)

The above is one of my favorites... because it's so us... we always sit in a field with our nerd glasses and a vintage phone that doesn't work and day dream together... haha... no I just love that I look like I'm truly enjoying my girls, and that does happen alot!

Oh yes, and these aprons were under the Christmas tree for all of us, I sewed them too. I also put together a darling box filled with cute spatulas, cupcake cup thingy's, sprinkles, cake mix, cookie cutters, and matching aprons for their American Dolls. I labeled the top of the box "Cupcake Company" which didn't mean anything, but just sounded cute at 1am in the morning... It was one of the favorites this year.... and it worked, we've been baking and creating all spring!

We ended the shoot with a staged flour fight... staged or not, we were truly fighting and cracking up... it was so so funny!! Check out what Mallory did to Addie's face, she got it bad... or maybe I did that to her... can't remember now... just easier to blame Mal... teehee, good thing Addie thought it was hilarious too!
Now if I can just get my boys to agree to a mother/son photo shoot... (maybe when pigs fly)

So Cali... So Fun...

We were lucky to spend a few days away recently in Newport Beach. Of course, we had a great time. Our good friends were able to come and play for a day, and the rest of the time was just us and the kids. I love doing things with just my kids. I love them building up their relationships and memories, and I love just enjoying them, with no interruptions. This was a no work week for me, so it included lots of snuggling, playing, napping, and more. As much as I love all of that, I am glad to be back, and feel productive again. Seriously, I would probly have depression creep in on me if I could sleep in every day like that. Call me crazy, but I have to feel productive. I guess it goes with what I am always telling my kids - work makes you happy!

It was also fun to just play with my camera with no specific goals or shots in mind.

I love piers! I love the underneath part of the piers... here are our friends... the most kicked back, easiest people to be around who happen to have kids exactly our kids ages... how convenient for us!!

Tori M, if your reading this, OH MY!! This is by far the best resort we've ever stayed in!! Marriott's Newport Coast Villas. We spent tons of time playing pool by the pool, tennis, ping pong, game rooms, treasure hunts, smores by the fire, hot tub, it had everything! AND a gorgeous view of the ocean! Mom, if your reading this.... THANK YOU for the gift of your time share points!! Best Christmas present ever!! We will be going back!

We asked the kids if they wanted to make us breakfast one morning.. and we gave them the idea of milk shakes for breakfast which Chase was crazy about! I think the kids didn't believe that we would really let them have milk shakes for breakfast, but really, how does it compare to sugar cereal, and waffles with syrup? Oh, we had that too... tee hee... c'mon it was vacation!! We're back to our spinach smoothies this week, kind of. This beautiful morning had a glorious fog, so you can't see the ocean, but I love the fog!

Casey could not pull himself away from the SUNS game which he watched in the TEEN ROOM! We can always pretend we're young right?

This is how I play with my camera... all of the above shots were taken with the only happy available children (which my boys are never happy and available for me to practice). I loved the lights of the night, the reflections across the pool, and the funky pool light that made for some pretty weird shots. I love to play camera!!! Mallory is in camera training too, and she played with a shallow depth of field one day... my hope is that one day, she'll grab the camera, so that there is record of all of these great people having a mom... I got no shots of me, sigh...

Elements Class

Some of you aren't aware that I have a Photoshop Elements on my calendar on my website, so thought I'd share all about it. I am also doing my last photography class (till fall) next week.

Day 3... when vintage girl marries country boy

Here is the final series of this event... you must see all the darling details that the bride put into the reception... it was just perfect! My daughter came to assist and we oohed and ahhed over everything, from the candy bar, to the centerpieces, to the cute litte girls in their yellow ruffled skirts... it was amazing!

The vintage girl ordered the simple flower arrangements in jars, and the country boy ordered the bull ride...

We, my daughter and I, loved this cute sign made from weathered music sheets...

instead of a cake, cupcakes were served all night long... love cupcakes!

the finale to the evening was the bride and grooms bull ride.... the operator said she was the first bride to ride it in her wedding gown... LOL

Day 2 on the series of this gorgeous bride and her new hubby.... we did this shoot a day before the wedding, such a smart idea so that their wedding day was a little less stressful, and we had plenty of time to capture all of these great shots. They also were able to use the shots at their reception, which was so fun!

On another note, just had to share these great pics of our good friend and her horse, Reno. We rode our bikes over one Sunday afternoon to meet the beautiful thing. I love this year's Spring season in Arizona. We've had lasting great weather, and we've enjoyed it so much with bike rides, walks, playing in the front yard and more bike rides.

How can you resist these faces! Oh my gosh, our good friends brought by these 2 bundles of wrinkles and my kids went nuts!! And, well, so did I... with my camera at least! Are they not the cutest things ever? We have a "mutt" that we've been planning on allowing her to have just one litter, but we can't find any available Daddy's. All the boy dogs in the neighborhood can't help us out anymore, so we're just lovin' on these cuties for now. They are full bred pugs, and yes, they are for sale. Both are girls. We had a great time at the last photoshop class, and I loved meeting and getting to know a bunch of fantastic ladies that all share the same thing in common, a love for photography and making great images! It's always so great to be able to learn things in person, and have other people's perspective, that's what I love about these classes. I have learned alot online, but I always learn so much more in person, than from the computer.

So...I've got a date! The much requested Basic Photoshop class is finally on my calendar again, and I am so very very excited!! I always say that half of the art is in the camera, and the other half of the art is in photoshop. I've spent as much time learning photoshop as I have learning my camera, and everything on my blog and website has been edited in photoshop.

OMG! I could look at these boys and these pics all....day....long!! Everytime I do, the "puppy dog tails" poem comes into my head, and just being with them and watching them play, wrestle and show their stuff for me in their yard reminded me of the cute kids on movies like "The Little Rascals" or "The Sandlot". I love boys. Love this stage of boys. Love that the Moms were smart enough to capture this stage and age. You don't always have to wait for a big event to capture your kids...

Coaching Session

Just wanted to share a few images I got when I did a one on one coaching with the most amazing Harmony Kellis! Harmony is stunningly beautiful (see the image I grabbed of her at her family session this last fall below), and is good at everything she does, but she doesn't realize how good. She's been to almost all of my classes, and that's all great, but I really love hanging out with her and talking shop and more so, she's the type of friend everyone should have... when you leave, you feel like your the coolest person ever because of how she is with you! Some days, when I'm not feeling so confident, I think I need to call and have a one on one session with her, cause she's such a great shot in the arm. I really have met some super great friends with this business, and am excited to be meeting many more this month with my classes and sessions booked!

It's time to get our game on!! With the beautiful sunsets we've been having, I am just dying to run out and play with the gorgeous light... wanna come play with me and my camera?

I love this class because we are doing a live shoot with models, and incorporating everthing that we learn on location!

This is a 3 hour class - we will spend the first 1/2 of the class learning about all the different types of lighting, how to make the best of them, and when to try what. We'll spend the second 1/2 of this class shooting, with models, trying all of the concepts that we've just learned. We'll have at least 2 models, so you'll also gain some insight on posing. You must be able to shoot in Manual Mode to attend this class or have attended my basic photography classes before! All lighting techniques will be done with natural light.

So here is one of my great friends and her cute family! We have alot in common, including our names. Amy came with a list of images she wanted, which I quickly tore up and threw away... just kidding. I actually love it when people have ideas when they come to their session. Mary Kay Ash always said; "If you have an idea, and I have an idea and we keep them to ourselves, then we each only have one idea. But if we put our ideas together then we each have two ideas." Pretty elementary, I know, but it's how I was raised in business! I always find that those two ideas make a third or a fourth idea too.

Amy did something totally fun, she had her kids pick something they wanted in one of their photograhs... a favorite. Great idea! So, we really captured their stage and age. She's the type of mom that cherishes every little thing her kids do. Love her... love them...

I was so glad to catch the above shot as they were walking away from where we were shooting the girls. The way these 2 guys adore each other is something so sweet.

Oh, I am so in love with this first image especially, but everything from this shoot turned out amazing!! This was a family group, with Grandma and an uncle included, but my heart turns to the cute kiddos!! Especially when she has eyes like this and shares a name with one of my own girls!

Minnie Sessions a hit!

My family and I had a great time on Saturday with our Minnie Sessions! We met so many adorable kids like this little guy who was squirting smiles right and left! A huge thank you to all the families that participated, you have made a difference to the little kiddos in Peru that are starving for an education, read more below!

We learned more about the SKIP foundation. They are actually quite amazing. They are doing everything they can to help the children in Peru to have an education, which doesn't come free. They are helping to pay for educations, as well as supplementing the educational process. The area in Peru that they are devoting their time is very poor and if the children don't have the opportunity to an education, their area will continue in it's unfortunate path of poor conditions and heavy drug problems. So, in fact, they are not only trying to help the children but to help change the country as these children grow into Peru's future. I just found out that with the money we raised, the SKIP foundation will be able to purchase a reading scheme, something they were really hoping to get. It is a graduated book series so the kids can track reading progression. Thanks again to the participating families! To find out more about SKIP click here.

We ended our day with the opportunity to photograph this sweet guy. Mr. D. has been suffering from seizures since he was a baby, and has the best attitude. He never quits smiling. His mind is still very young although his body isn't. He eats through a tube, and loves to be talked to. Here is just a sample of this sweet young man, more to come later. I know his family was excited for some great pictures of him, since he's never had that. But, for me and my kids, it was so fun to meet him, interact with him and help rub his legs when he needed it. As a mother, I am always grateful for opportunities like this for my children. You want your children to learn gratitude, humility, acceptance and love for everyone. His mother shared that some people never get comfortable around him, and it can be awkward. But we found by getting to know him, he left us with a peaceful and sweet feeling. You can't ever leave a child like this and feel like a victim yourself, but you feel that maybe you have more to give this world for all that you've been given.

1 day in the snow...

We got to go play in the snow a week ago, and it makes me realize how much I love living in Arizona!! All we need is 1 day in the snow, one day a year, and then we get to come home to our lovely spring weather. We all gather whatever snow clothes we can find, borrow or pass down, and make as many runs down the hills we can before our fingers and toes are numb.

I will be blowing up the above picture. Boys hate cameras, and it took me 20 minutes to get them to gather in the same area for a shot, and then luckily, my brother started chucking snow balls from right behind me, so I actually got some fantastic shots of these boys having a great time together... wish you could see it bigger, it's hilarious... their anticipating the next bomb...

We went down to Sedona to spend the night, and were blessed to see tons of snow falling. I had to capture these pics of snow on cactus. That's Arizona for you.

Here is our powdered sugar shot. We kept joking about all the powdered sugar on the mountains. (We just saw the movie "Cloudy with a chance of meatballs").

And since my boys won't pose for a picture, I had to grab a shot of them doing what they do all day long. Wrestling. I think I'll blow this one up big too. This is their stage and age. Actually, I doubt they'll ever grow out of wrestling. I love having boys.

My favorite place!

My favorite place in all of Arizona is Oak Creek Canyon. Mostly because it doesn't look like all of Arizona! It reminds me of my roots - the Great Northwest with large trees over growing the small windy road, a lovely creek that follows you out the car window! We've been coming up here to play with the kids for years, but I've never been here with a good camera and the know how to use it! So, I set up this weekend back in Novemeber for any family that loves the fall leaves - here is your eye candy - not only gorgeous fall colors, but an adorable family! These are some of the neatest people and the greatest parents! She is so structured, and provides so many learning opportunities for her kids... I love being in her space!

I am so excited because it truly is a win win for all involved. So, if your interested, here are the deets:

This last summer, I had Dayton’s family pictures on my calendar, but hadn’t taken them yet, and I got word that he was in the hospital with something that could be serious. Of course, I started getting worried, and thought, what if something happens to him before I am able to take these photos of him for his family to enjoy? It literally made my stomach drop. So, in an effort to bless other families with kids like Dayton and help them to have custom photography of their little angels on earth, we are offering free photography for them.

We made the News!!

I still remember when I heard that my really good friend's newborn baby had started seizing. We were all young Mom's together, and this was her first born, just a year behind my first born. It was shocking. The years that followed were filled with tests, surgeries, and more tests. The seizing never stopped. Today, Dayton is a joy and an inspiration everywhere he goes. Although he's never stood a day in his life, and never spoken the words "I love you Mom", he is all there inside, just trapped in a disfunctional body. My kids adore him, his cute sisters adore him, and so does everyone he meets, he has friends, he is in scouts, and loves camping and his church and his family! This summer Dayton got a new well trained dog. The dog is trained to sense when Mr D. starts his seizures, and will climb up onto his lap. Around his collar is a special unit that when placed near a unit in Dayton's upper chest, either stops the seizure, or minimizes it. So, welcome to the family Omega...he goes everywhere with them, yes everywhere! I took the chance to take their family photos back in August, and was so excited to see a few of them on News Channel 3 last night when they did a story on Dayton - so so cool! It's amazing meeting people like Dayton, you see the hours of service his family and therapists put into him and his quality of life. You are a little awkward at first, not knowing his capacity to understand, and you want to help, but you can't. But the real deal is that you always leave feeling the strength of his special spirit and you wonder if he is the one helping us, not the other way around. Love you Dayton!!

Giving was Awesome!

This family was nominated last year in my "Giving is Awesome" contest, and it took all year to get together between my crazy schedule and theirs. They were in the restaurant business, and like many other businesses have been, theirs had some really hard knocks. Here are just a few of my absolute fave's from the shoot, although there were many more... especially with girls like these. I love getting to know people. Even if your with them for just an hour or two, for some reason, behind my camera, it seems I can see so much about the family, the relationships, and the individuals, and my guess from what I now know about this family is that this Mom has one of the biggest hearts! She just seems like the type that cherishes her friendships, and is a true friend. The other thing I noticed was the girls. I mean look at them. Such a cute and sweet relationship for sisters. And little "G" brother is totally edible! It was all my pleasure working with this amazing family and getting to know them!

China Doll!

To really love these pictures as much as I do, you must hear a bit of the story.

Baby L's parents, who had been working on adopting from China for over 2 years were understandably frustrated to find out they were going home from China empty handed. See, they had already been there for a couple of weeks, and the baby they were supposed to take home was taken back to the orphanage (another story for another day). So, when they got the call saying there was another that they could possibly have, they were ecstatic. They knew she would come with heart problems, they had signed up for that. The orphange brought her to the hotel with grungy clothes, and pants that have an open crotch area. They tie elastic around the waist, since there are so many babies, and then they just put a large pad up and tuck it under the elastic. Then just pull it off to change her. She had been in the care of 4 or 5 different "homes" by this time. Her natural Mom was forced to leave her on the porch of the orphanage. Her new Mom and Dad (the greatest people) were so excited to finally get their baby girl~ miraculously, when they finally got her home, they had her checked with a clean bill of health!

I loved going to her home for some of the pics, her older sisters had decorated a darling "princess" room for her, complete with a closet full of the cutest clothes, bows, boots, and blankies. They are such an amazing family and everyone is head over heels in love with this darling baby!

These images were taken 3 weeks after she had been brought home here with her new family. She still had marks on her ankles where she was tied down to the crib in her orphanage. They tie them down so they don't roll over the other 2 babies that they share the crib with. She has taken the normal time to adjust, but I was in awe at how she responded with the biggest grins for her Mom (mom is standing right behind me for these shots), and how calm and peaceful and just contented this new baby was. I am so impressed with the parents, and am still dying over how beautiful she is! Mom wanted to do a session just for her, since she has no photos of her first year. They literally had to guess her birthday. Mom didn't mind me sharing, in hopes that her story might be an inspiration to anyone else out there looking to adopt... enjoy!

Wow! It has been a true whirlwind of crazy activities with family and friends along with much photog business to do over the last few weeks! I have so so many pictures to share with you, all of which are of some amazing people - we caught some great stuff! Christmas was the best day ever, the kids all loved what they got, which made it so fun for me. I put a lot of thought into their gifts this year and added some homemade touches here and there. I'm always nervous when Santa decides to bring things that are not on their lists, but luckily, Santa made good choices, and all were thrilled! I'll have to show some pics.... but later....

We had a fantastic Creative Lighting class this last weekend, there was a great group of women all wanting to learn, play and create with their cameras!! The sun totally cooperated, so we created some amazing sun flare, silhouettes, and even moody and artistic stuff. Our model has been a client before, and was fantastic! Thank you Bay~ I'll be sharing pics of her later.... I've had a few ask when the next one will be offered. As soon as I have enough interest, so email me, I'll get you on a list and we'll go from there.

I still have a few spots left for the basic photography classes that start next week. If you know of anyone that still wants in, let me know as soon as possible. I am also looking for someone to host it. The host will receive 1/2 off of their registration for letting us use their home for the classes. This way, I can just show up and not worry about getting my own home ready for the class. I would prefer if the host lives near or around Gilbert, but it's not necessary.

I am in love with the pics below. Mrs. P was so fantastic to work with, she did not want traditional - yeah!! So we were able to be creative and do some super fun things with her, her hubby and her 3 edible boys! I loved the colors that came through our background, with the warm sunshine and the greens. Very beautiful nature! Mrs. P and I have alot in common, we are both from the Great Northwest, and we have suffered from losses in our families, so I feel an extra warmth around her. Photography Classes are back!!

It's time!! With lots of new cameras and equipment under the tree this year, I thought it would be great to get the popular basic photography classes going again in January! I am also selling gift certificates for the class, you might want to put these under the tree with the camera!! These are both basic classes, but pretty fast paced. We take a learn and shoot approach, so we will teach about a topic, and then stop and shoot that concept, then move to the next concept. We will also explore the functions of your camera, get you off of auto, and teach you when and why to use which buttons.

I have had so so many requests for this class, and I still don't have the logistics for it figured out, but I will be holding a basic photoshop class in February, sometime, on a Saturday, for at least 6 hours. The class will cover the basics on the tools, layers, organizing your photos and of couse photo editing (see the images below). Take your photos from drab to AMAZING!!

In fact, if anyone can help me with a location that will power many laptops and is available on a Saturday for a good part of the day, please let me know. Maybe we can work a deal out with your registration as well. Registration for this class is not open yet, but please let me know that your interested, and I will get you on my list. Giving is Awesome! Back again...

Well, it's that time of year again for the Giving is Awesome event! Last year, I heard about a photographer who wanted to start a movement, to give custom photography to those in need, and spread a bit of cheer and joy into their lives. I jumped on board, and had such a great personal experience with it. I met some truly wonderful people that just had some hard knocks. Life is full of ups and downs, and it was so fun to be one of the "ups" for the families I did work for. So, I've been thinking all year about this month, and about this contest. I actually debated not doing it publicly. Partly because the hardest part was having to pick just one family out of the entries, and partly because sometimes I prefer doing acts of service without the recognition. It creates more personal growth for me. However, the "Giving is Awesome" contest is a national movement, and the goal of the founders is to give away $1 million this year. Movements like this are like avalanches, and I love that. It starts with one small stone and the momentum builds slowly, but before long, your affecting so many people. If your a photographer, please consider doing this yourself and tell all of your photographer friends. Tis the season...

I prefer girls to boys, just since they love getting their picture taken alot, and am looking for every hair color. My only qualification is that they must be over 12. Creative Lighting/Understanding Lighting

The much anticipated "Lighting Class" is finally here! I've been talking with many of you about a Creative Lighting Class for some time, and am thinking that this month will be the perfect time!! My favorite time of the year is between Christmas and New Years, all the lists are done, the kids are playing with their new stuff, the weather is fantastic, and there is still left overs, so I don't have to cook much! So, here is my After Black Friday Special:

This is a 3 hour class - we will spend the first 1/2 of the class learning about all the different types of lighting, how to make the best of them, and when to try what. We'll spend the second 1/2 of this class on location, with models, shooting all of the concepts that we've just learned. We'll have at least 2 models, so you'll also gain some insight on posing. You must be able to shoot in Manual Mode to attend this class or have attended my basic photography classes before!

Beach Sun Flare

This is the last of my beach pics, and I am so excited to share them, since they turned out so different than the others. Lots to be learned about lighting from this shoot. It was done in the afternoon, and so the background is washed out, and is why it has such a cool effect on the image. There was also a bit of a fog, and it made such a unique, artsy, cool effect on the pictures too (mostly visible on the image in the above post). The funniest thing about this week was the boys vs. girls. In the shoots I had with all boys, the whole family would end up in the water, playing. There was no choice in the matter, the boys would just get in, farther and farther during the shoot. I loved it. I love the natural playing, and just capturing them running and having fun in the waves. But the sessions I did that had all girls in the family, well, they didn't get in the water at all. They still ran, played, and had a blast, but they were wet up to their waists. I should've known, but it was funnier to watch, by the end of the week I was shooting in my swimsuit, sundress and hair in a bun. Of course, I could live like that... well, except for the swimsuit, that gets a bit annoying :)

Miracle baby rolls over!

So, this week, I am so excited for Thanksgiving. I'll be more excited when I am done baking 4 pies, and making 2 salads and homemade stuffing (still need a good recipe for this - anyone?). I do love to cook for Thanksgiving, homemade is always the best. One year we ate somewhere where everything served was from a can, a box, or from grocery store, and oh, how I missed my Mom's cooking. My parents are out of the country serving a mission in the beautiful St. Lucia, so the dinner will be here at my house. My poor kids have been doing all kinds of extra housework the last couple of days...my poor kids, ha! I always love a long chore list for them, it's what I grew up on, and helped me develop a good work ethic today. So, do I feel bad when they complain about the cleaning the dust under the couches, dusting the piano, and sweeping the stairs... uh, not even. They've got it easy in comparison. I was mowing the orchard at their ages, and that was just one of my chores. Thanks Dad! I'm thankful for those long lists of chores.

Okay, I must now share the next set of beach pictures with this sweet family, who were blessed with a miracle baby this year! She was so stinkin' cute and soo good for the shoot, she rolled over for the first time in front of the camera! It was soo fun! This Mom is so smart to cherish her pictures the way that she does! She will never regret it! We took some traditional family shots, but I loved these "lifestyle" shots, and had to share them!

The shot above is the one that I can picture nice and large. It's proof that you don't have to have every face looking at the camera and smiling. This just shows them having such a great time together, and it's so natural!

These are just the front sides, and of just a few. I actually have around 20-25 designs. The rest can be viewed on my website in a proofing gallery that I have set up. I have decided to offer excellent pricing on the cards, and believe me, they are the highest quality papers and colors used. All cards will be printed double sided (when the design is available) on fine linen or pearl papers, depending on the client's choice, and do come with envelopes.

A few items of interest... like payment plans and tweens

Just wanted to share how my payment plans work, since someone asked the other day.... I am totally flexible, but here's what I have going now.... As long as your session fee is paid in full before your session, you can break that into weekly, biweekly, monthly, or semi-annual payments :) As for the packages, at the time of order we will work out a calendar together, you will receive your order once I have at least 1/2 of the total, and all of the future payments in my hand (like post dated checks, or a debit card number). So, there it is, it's used often, cause it works great for more people who want amazing photos! I had a blast today shooting a mini Birthday shoot for one lucky 13 year old, whose super cool Mom arranged for me to do a photo shoot with her and her 2 buds. Even luckier, my daughter was one of the buds. I un-invited the Mom. Rude of me? No, not at all, it just works better for the tweens sometimes to not have Mom around watching. Can't wait to post some of the very cool and very creative stuff we did.

I've been wanting to post before and afters for a long time. I want newer photographers to realize that my "straight out of camera" shots are not so pretty. So much happens in Photoshop.

So.... here are a couple of examples. My sisters are always saying, "you don't have to do all that editing to ours, don't worry, we don't care..." but I truly can't let them out of my office with out being edited. And yes, sometimes it takes a long time and alot of work - but it's fun! Can you tell which are the before and which are the after pics?

I do still have space to squeeze in another fall shoot - the leaves are now at 100% change in Oak Creek Canyon where I will be shooting very soon! I am soo excited! I announced to my kids we'll be doing pictures there, the boys groaned. The coolest relationships...

I've got to tell you about this amazing girl, her amazing Mom, and her 2 amazing brothers, and their amazing relationship... but, really, I hope the pictures tell the story better than the words, because that was my goal.

Meet Caleigh, full of life, naturally beautiful, always cheerful, always dancing! She is such a breath of fresh air!

Meet Caleigh's Mom, Charlotte Steill, also full of life, also beautiful, and have I told you about her before? Yes, she is the professional organizer - my pantry and I both love her (more about that soon). These 2 are so close. They love to snuggle on the couch, watch movies, go shopping, and much more. They also love Sprinkles cupcakes, like my daughters and I do!

Can you tell what book they are reading? Yeah, my 13yr. old daughter spotted "Twilight" before I could even ask.

Meet Caleigh's 2 half brothers. I hope this picture "tells the story" of how they adore her so, and how she adores them even more. It is truly the sweetest thing to watch... here was my attempt below.

You can imagine how much fun this was so shoot! Caleigh's Mom was so great to pull this together for Caleigh and her brothers (they have the same Dad) to document their relationship! It was truly my honor to be around them and witness the respect and admiration they all had for each other.

It's funny, you spend an hour or maybe two with a family, and your not interviewing them, your not asking a hundred questions, but in that short time, you can totally "get" people's personalities, and how the relationships work. Who admires who, who's the funny one, who is the thoughtful one, who creates the peace. It is a joy to watch and be a part of and record all at the same time, and I always hope that I record it right.

Baby Blue Eyes

Does anyone mind seeing Halloween pictures in January? Or March? Oh, the curse of being a professional photographer is that your stuff always comes last, right? I have some super cute pics of Labor Day, some fantastic shots done in September with friends, and now with Halloween, I've got the guilt that I'm already too late to post them.... but, my only option is to be okay with Halloween pics when I get to them, which may be in January, or March... hope that's okay with you too. My hats off to everyone else who has already blogged about all of the cute-ness of Halloween... the pics are the best part!

On a fun note, I spent yesterday getting pics up in Glitterbox - so go stop by and see, and get ready to fall in love! The girls, the petti's, the colors!! It's all too much fun! Next week we start shooting for all 8 different parties - they have the cutest parties ever! Can't wait to shoot that!

The entire time I was with this family, they were laughing. Not at me (I hope), not gut rolling laughs, but someone would say something funny, or do something, and they just had this great relationship together and they seem to just be joking and laughing and having fun all the time. I'd be shooting the little girl, and turn around and the Mom has been picked up and carried away by one of the boys, or the Dad had one of the sons in a choke hold hug. Seriously, is it just having kids in the older stage? Is it their sense of humor? It was just fun! It was so fun to be around.

I had a fantastic time getting to know this very talented and great looking family in Scottsdale! We squeezed this shoot into a very short amount of time... it was crazy! All of these kids are star athletes and their mom is just as amazing. I love getting to know new people through this business, it is very inspiring to be around them. I know it might be hard to tell, but the Mom is the one in the dark brown hair. She not only looks great, she has a blast hanging out with her kids. It was easy to tell how kicked back and fun this family is.

I had the greatest time shooting families at the beach last week! Every shoot was so amazing! The colors, the kids, the ocean, piers, everything! We had a bit of cold weather to start out the week, so a few of the moms were found bundled in sweatshirts while the brave kids were in the water for hours without wetsuits! The weather did warm up later, and, yes, I was still a bit bundled on the sand. Well, let's just say I never really got in the water. It's always fun to be in Southern California and run into people we know. It's actually quite amazing, since that state is so huge, but alot of Arizonans like to go and see the same things and places, like beach camping, boardwalking, shopping, and fun parks! I decided this trip that I could live there. Half because of the weather and beach, and half because of the relaxed wardrobe and hairstyles. I love that I can not have perfect hair in Cali and not feel out of place! Of course, I would have to have a beach house. But, I'll start with a beach cruiser for now. My 13 year old is tired of lending me hers.

So, here is the beautiful J and her new hubby! We had crazy fun pulling out their personalities at their shoots - Mrs. J is a riot, and does not take a bad picture! Weddings are such happy ceremonies and parties, I catch myself smiling throughout the whole day - such a fun atmosphere! Congrats to the love birds!!

So Contagious!

This post is a bit image heavy, but I had such a great time doing this photo shoot, and there are so many amazing images of these girls to share! As some of you know, I am now working with Contagious and Glitterbox boutiques, and did this photo shoot just a few weeks ago... they have the cutest designer jeans, and all for under $49. I did take a bunch of pics of the details on the jeans, jewelry, etc. for the store's marketing, but wanted to keep this post of the girls... aren't they all fantastic! A big shout out to my favorite Mr. Benson, who brought the truck in just for this shoot! He and his wife are just the best!!

I have to say, I now am the excited owner of numerous Contagious jeans, and my daughter's are also being outfitted by Contagious and Glitterbox, and I get so many compliments on the jeans, everytime I wear them... love them! They are also doing "On The Go" parties, where you can be the hostess, they bring all the jeans, tops, and jewelry to you and your friends, and as the hostess you get 10% of all sales towards any merchandise. I am soo excited!! The bus image won the photo contest that Clicknmoms hosted - my first contest ever!! Woot woot! Raise the roof! It's your birthday! Tonight's gonna be a good night!

Thanks to everyone who voted for the image that won, I was going to enter #2, but image #3 was voted by my viewers by a much stronger vote... guess it was a good thing!

Ms. Carol's Gymkids

I thought that I would share the fun pics I took at Ms. Carol's Gymkids! Ms. Carol's is located on Gilbert and Southern, and offers all kinds of classes including gymnastics and dance. Somehow my youngest daughter got blessed with a flexible back, which makes no sense, since I am as flexible as a 2 x 4 and so is my older daughter. We are very envious that she can do bridge ups, seriously, that is not even an option for the rest of the family. So, since my daughter is taking from her, Ms. Carol and I are working together to create some art for her walls, and also some material for marketing. Her classes are fantastic, her new location is amazing and she is the greatest! Feel free to check her out at:

I am so excited! The Clickin Moms forum is hosting a photo contest this month that ends on Friday and the theme is "Back to School". I had the chance to take tons of shots with these cute girls and this old bus, and loved them.... but, can't decide which photo to enter??? Can you help me out? I am placing a poll in the right hand column where you can just click really easily to tell me your favorite before I enter the contest.

San Jose family

While we were in San Francisco this summer, I had a session booked with this family. It was my first time in San Francisco, a place I'd been wanting to visit my entire life, and so as we are driving through this fantastic city, I am getting very frustrated that this family didn't pick to shoot right in the downtown SF area... how could I be in this great city, and not have anyone to shoot in the streets? Then it hit me, "kids, tomorrow morning, we are doing a Fraughton family photo shoot!" I will post our pics soon, but now I can only thank this family, as I would have never thought to do my own family shoot there, and now I have some great stuff.
And, even better, this family found a beautiful area for our shoot! I couldn't be happier with the images, especially of their daughter. I don't know what it was about her, but I loved taking pictures of her! Loved that she was beautiful, but didn't think so, loved that she carried a spunk and an attitude that comes with her age, loved that she really felt awkward in front of the camera, but everything came out so stunning with her! When you create images that you love, it feels that you got paid in so many other ways.
I also have to thank the family for including me in their prayers. They sent me a copy of the email each of the kids got that day as a reminder of the time, wardrobe, and location, and in the bottom added a sweet reminder for everyone to pray that the experience would be fun and that it would be an heirloom for generations. I really really loved my job that day!

Taylor Swift and Mom's camera

So, this summer, my daughter and her friend are bored, and I became the activity of the day. Picture this... makeup everywhere, Taylor Swift blarring, jumping on beds, and laughing, lots of laughing! I really didn't have time to do this that day, but am so glad that I did. I can picture them in 10 years from now... makeup everywhere, as 20 yr old roommates, Taylor Swift blarring, and hanging out on their beds, looking back at these pics, and laughing, lots of laughing!

And of course, while the older girls are partying, the littles have to copy every thing they do... here are the crazies!

Wakeboarder in Washington!

This shoot was so fun! We ran around town to get some fun shots in alleys, and old car lots, and then climbed up onto the (active, very active) train bridge for a couple shots (didn't get caught), and then jumped into a couple of boats onto the Columbia River to shoot this Senior's pics - He's amazing at the sport, landing all kinds of flips and crazy moves - check out what we caught on my camera!

Surfer Girls

I know I've mentioned I would be showing these cute pics - LOVE THEM!! The petti's were a huge hit - everyone walking by either stared, commented to each other, or just came right out and told us how cute they were... the girls felt so pretty! The last shot was taken of all the little girls from our family reunion/beach week... I don't have this many kids - LOL!! The first couple of pics were taken on the San Clemente pier during their festival - I saw the cars, and immediately got excited, so had to bring the girls down first thing in the morning to get in some pics before the crowd picked up and while the lighting was decent. The owner of the "Surfer Girl" car was just bananas over these girls, and insisted that I take pics, putting them into the front seat, and the hatch, etc... what could I do, but snap away?? I'm just glad she and I were on the same wave that day (pun intended). It is getting time for Senior pics again! Thought I would post this gorgeous girl! What I loved most about shooting this girl, was that she brought her best friend along... she opened up way earlier in the shoot, and her fun and crazy personality came through very early on! It was fantastic, and I think I'm going to ask all my HS Seniors to bring their best friends along. It was seriously the best tool in my bag that day, and it wasn't my idea at all! Isn't she fantastic! Oh, check out the cute red sandal heels with her D Backs outfit! So dang cute!

A few beach shots

Well, since 1/2 the neighborhood had colds, we decided to join in on the fun! I have been first, and now my daughter - hopefully it stops there....it always amazes me that you can get a cold in the heat of summer! So, lots of Vit C (thanks Amy), lots of rest, and repeat... wish that's what I really could do....

Had to post these tonight - just some of the fun with the beach pics this year! The beach is so fantastic for shoots (October beach shoots still available)... you've got this beautiful natural and neutral background, and then bright pops of color with umbrellas, suits, boards, and more... the ocean is a wonder, the sand calls your name, and the sun - oh the warm, California sun!

My boys are like all other boys, they don't like getting their pictures taken. However, when it comes to their sports, they are asking all the time, and I come running, since it's a rare event (and I want them to think I'm a cool mom - hee hee). These first 3 shots we printed into posters, and hung in their bedroom, they are fantastic!

This picture above was taken by accident. I actually take alot of those accidental shots. Where I just happen to be shooting at the right moment, and it comes out as an incredible shot. When I first saw this on my laptop on I-10 heading home from the beach, I started laughing and showed everyone our little guy's "6 pack"! With a little photoshop, the colors are amazing, and our guy with 12 ribs and a 6 pack (or 2 pack?) is loving this poster!

This shot above is one of my favorites and was successful due to the fantastic lighting and knowing how to use it! It has made me start putting together a photography class just on lighting and how many creative ways you can use it to make some of the coolest images, like how to use backlight correctly, adding drama with side light, the beauty of sunflare, and how to create a silhouette. The class is in my head right now, and I'm thinking it would involve some models? It would be a super, way, fun class for anyone that loves photography as much as I do! I do cover lighting in my photog classes, but there is so much to cover, I can't do all the fun stuff and spend the time on it that I'd like. Anyone interested?

Hospital Shoot

My girlfriend had baby #6 last spring, and they agreed to let me come in and document the event! I loved every part of it! I loved the photojournalistic way of shooting, I loved the fantastic hospital lighting (most of it), I loved being a part of the miracle, I loved how so many of the completed images were story telling, and feel like art as well. I loved this darling chubby baby. I could do this all day long, and would love to... just contact me. This is slide show is my first, and I really don't have a clue of what I am doing. I am using Adobe Premiere 7, and wish I knew more how to use it.... like a better title page, does anyone know how? I'll learn somehow... there were many other details in the other shots I took but this is what I included for the slideshow.

My friend allowed her oldest daughter to be in the room, it was a C section, so you'll see some photos of her. It was such my honor to be a part of and record this for them! Please let me know what you think!

Anyone looking for a great dance studio for their little girls? You've got to check out Michelle Taylor's studio! I have my youngest in her classes, and I love it and she loves it! I loved that at last year's spring recital, she had their class do 2 dances with 2 costumes! It was so cute and fun! Michelle is a ball of energy, down to earth and super fun, I also loved that she created the dances to the girls interest level and ability! She's just awesome!!
